Blackberry Pearl 8120

Research In Motion's Blackberry series had, due to its
business-class utilitarianism, managed to capture most of
the business market. But its bulkiness and lack of extra
features were not allowing it to be as popular as its true
potential demanded it to be. With the launch of the
Blackberry Pearl 8120, RIM has made a bold statement. The
first change is its refreshing new looks. Coming with a size
specification of 4.2"X2"X0.6" this phone is comparatively
sleek when compared to Blackberry's earlier models and
weighs 88 grams. The side mounted thumbwheel has also been
removed which was not bad, but often proved to be a
nightmare for left-handed users. In the place of the basic
up-down action key, sits a 360 degree swivel action roller
ball, which justifies the name Pearl(It even glows white
when you use it). This gives the user the freedom to scroll
easily, just like what a mouse does for a PC.

Released in the third quarter of 2006, the Blackberry Pearl
8120, better known as the Blackberry Pearl, is a quad band
GSM device. It is the first in the Blackberry series to
incorporate a camera and other multimedia features. Though
the camera is of basic specifications - 1.3 MP; still the
picture quality is good even in dark conditions, thanks to
the rather powerful flash feature. The QWERTY keyboard is
the same for a Blackberry user, but for somebody
unaccustomed to this series, it would take some time to be
more comfortable as the keyboard has the standard pattern,
but with half the number of keys! The email setup is very
impressive, with the Blackberry enterprise server and the
provision to install Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk for
the user to stay in touch. The screen is a standard 65,000
colors, with a resolution of 240X260 pixels. The phone also
has a built-in media player for playing MP3 files and
videos. Battery life is good, with up to 15 days of standby
time and 3.5 hours of talktime.
