Blackberry Storm Reviews – Reviews of the Blackberry Storm

Blackberry Storm Review

If there is one thing that RIM has found out, its that their ultra successful Blackberry Smartphone’s are not only coveted by Barack Obama and the likes. It turns out that many consumers are interested in the business centric phones.

Thanks to the popularity of the iPhone, RIM has decided it’s about time that time they had a touch screen phone of which to brag about. And so the Blackberry Storm was born.

DESIGN

Although the phone has a 3.5 inch touch screen and lacks a physical keyboard, the Blackberry Storm is just as much a Blackberry both in looks and performance.

The main feature of the phone is a touch screen that measures 3.5 inches. But unlike the screen of the iPhone and other touch screen phones, the Blackberry Storm’s screen has a “click” interface which allows you to actually click the screen. Simple explained, the phone has a big spring behind the screen which facilitates this function.

The phone also carries a the two convenience keys on the sides of the phone as well as a home screen key and call as well as end keys. However the trackball that has become a trademark of Blackberry phones is missing which Blackberry doesn’t seem to think is necessary because of its touchscreen.

Other features include Bluetooth 2.0, and a 2.0 megapixel camera that also records video. The phone is guaranteed to be world phone and thus supports four bands of GSM as well as CDMA.

PERFORMANCE

The performance specs of the phone look fine on paper, but as we all know that does not mean that it will produce those same results during use. Fortunately most of the PR and early Blackberry Storm reviews about the features were true.

While the touch screen does provide a more natural feel to typing than the iPhone, it does take a little getting used to. The screen requires the user to touch the screen to highlight the selection and than press the screen to select it. You might find yourself making a few mistakes when you begin as this is what happened to us. But after a while you will get the feel of it. We did find it easier to type on the screen of the Blackberry Storm than the iPhone.

The camera on the phone is acceptable. While not the best in the business, we were able to pull some good photos out of it, and thanks to the video camera you can record those once in a lifetime moments when you fail to bring a camcorder.

The web browsing on the phone is acceptable, but could be better. So far it does not top that of the iPhone which has the best browsing experience of any mobile phone we have ever tested. We did notice that the phone lagged a little depending on how many programs we had opened. And sometimes the accelerometer was sluggish. But the phone never froze requiring us to manually restart it.

Voice calls were clear and so were data speeds. The speaker phone was good but could have been better.

CONCLUSION

We recommend the Blackberry Storm for those who still want a device that carries strong email and productivity support but is still fun to use. On the other hand if you’re just about play and no work, you might consider going with the iPhone or Instinct.
